what do you teach?
I teach early childhood music, newborn to age 7. I also train all my teachers, not what to teach, but how.
what's your focus?
I don’t teach music per se. It's about bringing out musicianship and musicality. When you have fun with music, it's unconscious learning.
what teaching methods do you use?
I like to use tried and true curriculums rather then re-invent the wheel. We teach Kindermusik, Suzuki and Yamaha Group Piano.
how does teaching children affect your music?
Music has so many infinite possibilities. I used to see it as doing RCM exams year after year, going through the motions. Now, I see it as a
vehicle to help children in language, cognitive, discipline, social skills, the list goes on.
how did you get started?
I was tired of the all ages, all grades and all styles type of piano teacher. It's just not possible and you cannot be everything to everybody. I
was seeing kids quit too soon because many times they have the wrong learning approach.
I love teaching and children really inspire me. If
we can engage them at a early age, imagine the possibilities.
who are your greatest supporters?
Believe it or not, parents that have either been in lots of music or no musical background at all.
For the parents that have a music
background, some have had negative experiences so they just want their child to have fun and that’s really the best way to learn.
Some didn’t have the opportunity for music classes, so they love connecting with their child in class each week.
